Software Engineer
The interview process included a 20-minute call with a recruiter, followed by a 30-minute interview with the hiring manager. This second interview was pretty chaotic and unprofessional. The manager seemed to be reading from a script and wasn't really engaged in our conversation, like they were just trying to tick boxes instead of getting to know me. They also unexpectedly asked me to do live coding and open an IDE, which I wasn't told about beforehand. My laptop was new and I couldn't log into my online IDE, and the manager didn't seem to listen to my answers or answer my questions about the company.
- Can you tell me about a project you've worked on that involved both a frontend and a backend?
Data Engineer
I moved to a new team internally, which was pretty straightforward. I found a role I liked and told my manager. He put me in touch with Louie Moreno, the recruiter, who sorted out the interviews. Louie gave me time to prep and all the stuff I needed to do well. He kept me updated on everything to make sure the move and starting the new job went smoothly. There were two interviews: one with the team manager and another with the Director of the organization. The questions were mostly about SQL, NoSQL databases, Python scripting, and processing real-time events using Spark and Kafka. They also asked some behavioral questions about how I'd handle certain situations and resolve conflicts within and between teams. All in all, it was a really good and easy experience.
- How would you handle a challenging colleague?
- What's your approach to managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines?
Account Manager
The DISH interview process is pretty well put together and runs smoothly, giving candidates a good look at the company's drive for new ideas and results. It feels both quick and personal from start to finish, with a big focus on talking and making sure everyone's on the same page. A really cool part of the process is Garrett, a recruiter who makes things so much better. Garrett is super professional but also genuinely cares—he keeps candidates in the loop, ready, and feeling good at every stage. He's open, gets back to you fast, and shares smart thoughts, which makes it feel comfortable and lets candidates show what they're made of. Garrett doesn't just represent DISH; he really lives the company's values, making it feel less like an interview and more like a real chat about what's possible.
- In what ways would you manage challenging client interactions and guide clients towards improving their performance benchmarks?
- How would you approach dealing with demanding clients and motivating them to reach higher performance levels?
Sales Representative
I applied through Indeed and a recruiter called me about my resume. I had uploaded an old one by accident, but she was nice and let me send her my current resume. Then I talked to her more about the job, pay, and schedules. After that, I had an in-person interview with the manager where they asked about my past work, sales background, and scheduling. I felt good about it but didn't get the job. It was a good learning experience since I haven't done sales before. I contacted the recruiter, and she sent me the careers page, and I'm looking at other roles there now.
- Do you have any planned time off in the next 90 days?
- Tell me about your previous work experience.
- Describe your experience in sales.
