First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Bloomingdale's.
Leadership Development Program
First, I got an email with a performance assessment that had a series of questions. It took about 35 minutes to complete. After finishing, I got an email for a phone screening with a current buyer at Bloomingdale’s. The screening was entirely behavioral questions, and they asked about trends I pay attention to. After the questions, they said I'd hear back in 1-2 weeks. I followed up after two weeks with no response. I kept following up and finally got a response saying I'd hear back in a week. It's been a month, and I still don't know what happened. I'm assuming they moved on with other candidates, but from a company as big as Bloomingdale’s, you'd expect common decency and at least a rejection email.
- Can you tell me about an interesting fashion brand or trend you follow?
- Tell me about yourself and your past work experience.
Visitor Experience Manager
I went through 4 rounds of interviews. First, a phone call. Then, a virtual chat with a senior person, followed by another virtual interview with a store manager. Finally, there was an in-person meeting with the general manager. Each interview was about 30 minutes long and involved a mix of general questions and some that specifically tested my knowledge of the company.
- How would you manage a challenging customer scenario?
Beauty Advisor
I applied online and got a video interview scheduled. I was called the day after applying and set up an in-person interview. I had two phone interviews. They never mentioned pay, but the online listing said $19-$29, which is a big range. I wouldn't have applied if I knew I'd get offered less than the median, especially since I'm a licensed cosmetologist with a bachelor's degree and industry experience.
- What makes you want to work in the beauty industry?
Support Specialist
My experience was pretty disappointing. I spoke with two different managers, and they both had totally different ideas about what the job entailed, like the work schedule and the pay. It was pretty surprising. Also, the first manager messed up and booked my second interview with his boss on a day the boss wasn't even going to be there. I drove two hours for that interview, but when I got to the store, they just turned me away. And they acted like it was my fault. The first manager apologized a lot and said he'd make it up to me, but then I just got ghosted, and no one from the company even said sorry. I tried contacting HR in New York twice, and I never heard back. It's pretty shameful.
