First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Bloomingdale's.
Sales Manager
I applied online and HR contacted me shortly thereafter. The interview process was really disorganized. I had to travel to Chicago and come in about 5 separate times to meet and be interviewed by everyone. By the time I got to the head HR manager, she opened my file and asked me what role I was interviewing for, which was surprising since she didn't even know. After I told her I was interviewing for SMT, she informed me that all the SMT positions had just been filled. I'm not sure why I was even there then. In the end, I was offered a Specialist position with a promise of quick SMT opportunities in the future, which turned out to be a lie. After 10 miserable months, I quit due to extreme micromanagement and lack of work-life balance.

Sales Manager
I spoke with the HR Manager about the Sales Manager role. The store and company culture seem really positive and friendly. A key focus is customer letter scores, aiming for 85% or higher as per company policy. They also stressed 'clientelling' – collecting customer contact info and following up regularly to encourage repeat business.
- Can you share an instance where you mentored a team member to adopt a new system or company policy?
- How have you handled coaching employees to ensure they comply with company directives, specifically regarding system adoption?
- Tell me about a time you had to get an employee on board with adhering to company policy or a new system.
Sales Manager
I was tapped to interview for this position by my General Manager at another location, so I went on the interview 2 days later. After being interviewed by the general manager, I met with the Group Manager (my direct supervisor) and the Customer Loyalty Manager to make sure they both signed off.
- Can you describe your experience at the previous location?
- What changes have you implemented in the store?
- What challenges do you anticipate facing at Roosevelt Field?
