First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Bloomingdale's.
Store Manager
So there were 3 interviews, and since they liked me after the 3rd interview I was also given a chance to speak to the store manager at the location I was interviewing for. The first is a quick phone call with a rep from human resources, the second focused on situational "what would you do if..." kinds of things, and the third was mostly behavioral and why you'd be a good fit for the role.
- Why do you want to work at Bloomingdale's?
- Tell me about a time you had to deal with a difficult project and how you managed it.
- Describe a time you led a group, including any challenges you faced.
Store Manager
The whole interview process was a waste of time. If you don't fit the old-school way of managing soft-goods retail, you won't get the job. Also, the pay isn't great compared to others. The process itself just keeps going on and on, way longer than they said it would.
- Tell me about a scenario where you had to manage a store, and how you approached it.
- What would you do in a situation that deviates from the standard soft-goods retail management model?
Store Manager
I got this job through on-campus recruiting at my school. They got back to me in a few days and I had my interview the following week. The interview had two main parts: a technical one where I had to analyze performance reviews on my own, and a behavioral one. They also sent an email with a scenarios test.
- What is your understanding of sales? Explain your reasoning.
- Describe your thought process.
- How would you manage conflict within a team?
