I went through four rounds of interviews with Oracle NetSuite and also had to complete a project that took a lot of time and effort. This project involved creating several design assets, video content, writing copy, and coming up with two complete campaign ideas. I got positive feedback after each stage, which made me feel like things were progressing well. But after weeks of interviewing, the recruiter told me the job was completely cut. It reflects poorly on Oracle NetSuite's hiring process when candidates invest so much time and creative work, only to find out the position doesn't exist anymore. What's even more concerning is the recruiter casually saying, "this happens all the time" at Oracle. It's disappointing to see this kind of disorganized or exploitative hiring behavior normalized, especially from a company like Oracle. If a role's budget or future is uncertain, it's only professional to sort that out internally before looking for candidates and making them spend their time, energy, and ideas. In today's job market, where candidates' time is often not valued and ideas can be stolen, this kind of experience is not just frustrating, but really discouraging. They need to do better.

There were four rounds. First a recruiter phone screen, then a hiring manager phone screen, followed by a hiring manager interview, and finally a sales roleplay interview. The first few steps were pretty easy, but the sales roleplay was a bit tough. It was good to meet the team and get a feel for what they are looking for in this role.

Behavioral Technical Coding

The interview process involved a recruiter call for Oracle Netsuit, followed by a technical interview with two tech managers. During the tech manager interview, I learned about their monolithic system, which is so large it requires remote VMs and likely has very slow CI/CD pipelines and infrequent production releases, suggesting a lack of Agile practices. They also mentioned a 20% frontend requirement and the expectation for engineers to handle QA tasks, essentially looking for 'custom engineers'. The interview was conducted in English, though some Spanish was used. The technical interview, also in English, involved coding exercises on a problematic HackerRank platform that had an unreliable IDE. This setup felt like programming in a static, procedural style, neglecting object-oriented principles, code readability, maintainability, class design, scalability, architecture, and testing, which I emphasized as crucial engineering aspects. The focus seemed to be on rapid algorithm development, potentially at the expense of code quality. I was not offered a chance to ask questions or given any feedback at the end, which felt very outdated.

So I had this recruiter call that was super unprofessional. She had to reschedule twice, which was a hassle. Then, during the Zoom call, she didn't even turn on her camera, saying it wasn't needed, so I was just talking to a blank screen. She seemed totally uninterested and disengaged the whole time. She even told me that if I didn't hear back in 2 weeks, it meant I was out. Weirdest part was she actually took back the email she sent asking to reschedule, maybe scared of her boss finding out, and I got this weird notification late at night. Definitely not a great experience.
