So, first I had a chat with the recruiter, it was pretty chill. Then, after that, the hiring manager called me. Once he gave me the thumbs up, I met with the team. After they all agreed, they made me an offer. Signing the contract was the final step. The only weird part was this background check they did with some outside company. They wanted tons of scanned documents, which was super annoying.

The interview process included a few phone calls followed by an onsite interview. I found the hiring manager to be a bit arrogant, and they seemed to believe that speaking with industry experts and talented individuals who wouldn't be impressed by negative talk was key. The hiring manager repeatedly mentioned having top students from highly-ranked Chinese universities, which I found irrelevant given my 12 years of experience at a top 100 hi-tech company. They became defensive when I stated my in-depth knowledge across areas beyond the scope of this job and asserted that no one present was qualified to interview me. My suggestion is to avoid boasting about having students from Stanford or top Chinese universities or seeking top industry talent unless you are prepared for such interactions.

Then I went to the office for a call with my future boss. We talked more about the job, how my past work relates, and how the company works. Next, I had a call with a future coworker in the same role, who shared details about the work, challenges, and how to overcome them. After that, I met three future teammates. They asked me how I'd handle real-life situations and gave me feedback on expectations and skills to improve. Later, I spoke with a higher-up manager about the role, my background, expectations, and the company's work and products, getting interesting examples. Finally, I met my future boss and a future coworker again at the office to discuss my understanding of the role. Before joining, I had a meeting with a colleague to check my personal fit with the team and company. They gave feedback after each step, advised on the next steps, and told me when to expect contact, and they always followed through. Very professional.
