Had a phone screening on Feb 13, possibility to change tracks during the call. Completed a HackerRank test before Feb 25th (it was super simple). Then attended an assessment centre on Feb 26th which included long talks from HR, a talent specialist, an account manager, current consultants, and a skills lab coach. It involved 15 minutes of group discussion prep followed by an 8-minute discussion. There was a lunch break, and then another talk from a consultant. Finally, there was a 15-minute interview with the Account Manager and a 15-minute interview with the skills lab coach. It was a really long and tiring day, made more so by spontaneous schedule changes and the large number of candidates.

So I looked into the IT Operations Practice at FDM Group, and honestly, I decided not to go any further. The whole setup seems cool at first: you sign a contract, get three months of training, and then they set you up with interviews for client jobs. But when I dug into the specifics, some big red flags popped up. They make it sound like a sweet way to break into tech, but it's really not all that great. If you actually get placed, you're looking at $50K a year for a two-year contract, which is super low compared to what others make, especially with the work, location, and what clients expect. Plus, you're stuck for two years. If you bail early, they can hit you with about $75 per training hour, which adds up to like $40-50K, so you're basically stuck. Seriously, do your homework before signing anything. Check out Reddit and Glassdoor reviews; tons of people have the same story. Maybe it's okay for someone totally new to IT with no other options, but for most people, it's probably a last resort.

Technical Coding

I applied online and then heard back from someone via phone a couple of weeks later. They wanted to confirm I was still interested and to set up a virtual interview. The interview itself was over Microsoft Teams and was pretty casual, business casual dress code. They asked some basic technical questions about Java and OOP. They also explained the job and the interview process, and I got to ask my questions. After that, I was given a HackerRank assessment that I had to finish within 48 hours. It takes about 45 minutes and needs to be done all at once with the webcam on.

The interview had a few parts. First, I did an online assessment with game-based tasks. Then, a recruiter called me to ask about my background and some basic tech stuff. After that, I took another online technical test with about 10 questions on different topics. Then, I had a technical interview with someone from the company. Lastly, I had two interviews about my motivation for applying to FDM and my interest in the role, one with two people and one with a single interviewer.
