Project Manager
First contact via JobTeaser. Shortly after, a brief introductory phone call was held, where basic requirements were checked, but mainly the program was presented. The applicant day a few weeks later was an online assessment center with three parts: a Desigma test, a case study + presentation in English, and a 45-minute interview. The Desigma test is standard procedure. The case study involved mapping the internal workings of a parcel station in a flowchart. This required text comprehension, the ability to understand instructions for the flowchart, and further expert knowledge. The presentation took place with an IT person and an HR person. The interview mainly asked about behavior, especially in team situations. A day later, there was a twenty-minute feedback discussion with the notification of whether there was an offer. The interviewers' misjudgments are shocking.
- How do you handle needing a teammate's work urgently to meet a deadline?
- What did you find particularly difficult or easy at the beginning of your studies?
- What role do you typically play in a team?
Project Manager
It was a 2-round process. The first round was a 15-minute technical round where the trainer asked straightforward questions on Unix, Excel, and SQL, and you could refer to online sources. No coding was involved. The second round was a 15-minute HR round with an Account Manager, focusing on behavioral questions related to your background.
- Could you answer questions regarding Unix?
- Could you answer questions regarding Excel?
- Could you answer questions regarding SQL?
Project Support Officer
I applied online for the FDM Singapore office via a job portal, and shortly after, I got an email to schedule a phone interview. After passing the phone interview, I was invited to an assessment centre the very next day. The assessment centre had six of us, candidates for both the Project Support Officer and technical roles. We started with an HR presentation about the program, which included some videos to summarize the key points. The presentation really stressed the 2-year commitment required for the training provided. The head of HR for Asia also spoke, reinforcing the 2-year bond. Then came the tests: an aptitude test covering logic and basic IT knowledge (1 hour), a Math test (21 questions in 15 mins) which was stated to be GCSE standard and no calculators were allowed (so know your long division, multiplication, simultaneous equations, indices and roots), and a set notation test (1 hour). The aptitude test had some basic pseudo code questions about strings, printing values, and while loops. A booklet was provided for the set notation test, which made it manageable. Two days after the assessment centre, I received a call informing me that I wasn't selected. The feedback was that interviewers perceived a lack of ambition, drive, and motivation for the program in my answers, and I should have prepared more convincing answers.
- Tell me about your motivations for wanting to get into Project Support/Management.
- What makes you want to work specifically for FDM?
- What about FDM interests you as a company?
