FDM Group Application Support Engineer Interview Questions
& Process

First, there was a phone interview where the recruiter asked about my resume and interest in IT. Then I did some assessment tests covering IT, Venn diagrams, situational judgment, and math, which were pretty easy given my engineering background. The final part involved two separate interviews with the trainer and account manager. They seemed happy with my answers, occasionally saying 'good.' Sadly, I got rejected a few days later, which was a bummer since I'd turned down other interviews and was really hoping to join FDM. The assessments felt a bit unprofessional, with some examiners using their phones. I guess it worked out okay though, as I heard I might have had to work overtime and weekends.

I got a phone call about 3 days after applying online and we scheduled a quick phone interview. During the phone interview, they mostly asked about FDM and if I knew the basic workings of the company. The day after that, I was invited to do some video interviews. The video interview involved skills-based questions that were prerecorded, and I had 45 seconds to answer each one. It wasn't too difficult, but a few questions really surprised me. Then, the day after finishing those, I got invited to the Assessment/Interview Day. On the assessment day, there were 7 of us in total, but I was the only one not applying for a developer role. The whole day was actually pretty nice; the HR folks made a real effort to make us feel comfortable and welcome. We did the typical tests like math, IT, and set theory. After that, we had a group activity where we had to solve riddles, and some of us were pulled out for interviews. They asked more strength-based questions, which I was much more ready for after searching online for "strength-based questions" and practicing my answers. If you bring up technical questions, they'll ask them; you don't have to answer everything to pass, but you do need to show you're interested in the IT field.

The process felt unreasonable, with a preference for Canadian candidates, limiting opportunities for others. I was disappointed not to be selected, though refreshments were provided. The group discussion was engaging.
