The interview process had three rounds, and the last interview was a panel interview. It wasn't too rigorous and was quite comfortable, depending on the team/panel. They asked basic experience and team fit questions. Overall, it was a great experience. Since it was during the pandemic, the entire process was conducted remotely from home.

Behavioral Technical Coding

So first up, I had to introduce myself and my background, just to get comfortable with the interviewer. Then, we dove into the technical stuff. We covered OOP basics like encapsulation, inheritance, polymorphism, and abstraction. After that, it was Java basics, covering things like data types, control flow, handling exceptions, and using collections. Next, we got into DBMS, which was pretty detailed, touching on normalization, SQL queries, joins, indexing, and transaction management. They gave me some real database problems to solve, testing my knowledge and how I'd design efficient schemas and optimize queries. Then, the conversation shifted to HR questions. I talked about my strengths, focusing on my tech skills and soft skills that fit the job. I also mentioned my weaknesses and how I'm working on them. The interviewer was pretty chill but professional the whole time. It lasted about 45-60 minutes, and they checked both my tech skills and if I'd fit in.

Behavioral Technical

We started with a recruiter phone call, then a hiring manager chat, and finished with a panel interview. The timeline wasn't rushed but also not super slow. For entry-level roles here, they really focus on soft skills and use STAR questions about your resume projects and past experiences. The hiring manager's main goal is to see if you'll fit with the team. This place is one of the few that actually trains new engineers.

I applied for the Senior Lead Engineer – Materials Modelling role and went through several interview rounds. I made sure to communicate my salary expectations upfront before the first interview. After the interviews, they asked for my documents like salary slips, passport, and Aadhaar, which usually means they are close to making an offer. Salary talks happened on July 3, but the offer was much lower than what we had initially discussed. I reminded them of my expectations and said I was open to finding a middle ground. For about two weeks, I heard nothing, and then I got a standard rejection email with no explanation. I felt the whole process was disappointing and not very transparent, especially considering the time I put in. I wasn't even given a chance to negotiate. If you have specialized experience, especially from research, be careful and confirm compensation details early on. The interview discussions were technically good, but the overall hiring process lacked transparency and timely communication, particularly at the end. I hope this feedback helps create better and more respectful hiring experiences, especially for those moving from research to industry.
