First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Wavestone.
Consultant
Had a first call with HR, then an interview with a consultant about motivation, followed by a case study with a manager. Then a second interview with a consultant who had 2 years of experience. They asked standard questions, nothing tricky, so I felt good about it. The HR person called a few days later to say I wasn't selected because some answers lacked structure. This reason seems valid, but for this interview, all my answers were 'prepared in advance' and I made sure they were structured. So, I put in personal effort for an interview where the firm benefits by developing its junior consultants at the expense of candidates.
- Can you explain the difference between strategy consulting and management consulting?
Cybersecurity Consultant
GenAI Engineer
First, there was a phone call with HR, which was very human and friendly, though you have to be careful with every word or they'll comment on it. Then, there was a one-hour IQ test (which is illegal!). After that, I had an onsite interview with the same HR person, where they asked some situational questions. No particular traps, and I got a tour of the facilities. Next was a technical test that was unnecessarily stressful. They sent datasets and gave only 2 hours to prepare for a complete AI analysis. Then, I had to present my findings for 45 minutes (example data: Titanic on Kaggle). Immediately after, still on the same day, I had a 30-minute discussion with the Manager. It was a ridiculous experience; they accused me of not giving complete answers when I had literally said the same things 2 minutes prior, and this happened three times. Fake smile and fake kindness. Finally, there was a last discussion with the direct superior.
- What is your strategy when a client is unreceptive to dialogue?
- How do you handle a client who doesn't grasp the project's significance?
- What makes you the ideal candidate for this role?
Analyst
The interview process involved several stages. It began with a 30-minute call with HR to get acquainted and prepare for subsequent interviews. This was followed by an interview with a consultant to discuss your motivations and the typical work of a consultant. Next, there was an interview with a senior consultant who would challenge your motivation, your understanding of the consulting world, and a case study. Finally, an interview with a partner to further challenge your motivation, knowledge of the consulting industry and the company, and your working style. A case study was also provided to prepare beforehand.
- What is a reason not to hire you?
