First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Wavestone.
Consultant
I had a first 30-minute call with an HR person to check my motivations and fit with the company. Then, I had an interview with a consultant from the business unit I applied to. They asked fit questions and some technical ones, and at the end, there was a short, informal simulation, not quite a formal case study. I'm moving to the next round.
- Why consulting?
- Which AI technology interests you the most?
Consultant
I interviewed for a junior consultant position within the data AI BU. The exchange went well: I presented my background, experiences, and motivation clearly, with structure and professionalism, and answered all technical and behavioral questions. However, the rejection was based on the interpretation of a single sentence: 'I will keep my calm,' used in a situational exercise to express composure and control in the face of the unexpected. This wording, although consistent with the qualities expected in consulting (analysis, perspective, stability), was perceived as defensive. That such an isolated interpretation could determine the outcome of an interview highlights a lack of discernment in evaluating junior profiles. At this level, potential, motivation, and the ability to learn should be prioritized, not a rigid reading of a word or intention taken out of context. This experience leaves a regrettable impression: that of an evaluation process more focused on immediate compliance than on identifying future talent.
- Could you explain the workings of RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation)? Now, how would you explain it to your grandmother? And then, to a second-year undergraduate student?
- Describe the concept of Random Forest to a client, and state the reason for its name.
Consultant
The hiring process at Wavestone is pretty structured and tough. It usually involves a few steps: first, a phone call with an HR recruiter to discuss your background, why you're interested, and what you're looking for. Then, you'll have one or more interviews with consultants or managers, which often involve case studies. These interviews check your analytical skills, how you structure your thinking, your communication abilities, and if you'd fit in with the company culture. The atmosphere is professional but friendly; they're more interested in understanding your thought process than getting the exact right answer.
