The interview process started with a phone screen, followed by a Zoom interview with the hiring manager. Then there was about a 1-hour in-person interview with the hiring team. Overall, it was a positive experience and everyone was friendly, welcoming, and professional. It was a complicated time at Steelcase due to a complex acquisition, which made for a unique interview experience. There seemed to be a lot of uncertainty for the future, which made me nervous about interviewing for this new role.

I applied online and a recruiter got back to me after a few weeks. The recruiter call went really well and they seemed super interested. I was feeling good, but after talking to two people (which I thought went great), I got a generic rejection email from HR. It was confusing because they kept reposting the job, making me wonder if it was legit or if they were having trouble finding someone.

You'll start with a chat with HR. If they think you're a good fit, you'll get an assessment, which is basically an IQ test, like figuring out the next thing in a sequence. If you pass that, you've got two more interviews. First up is a behavioral interview where you'll answer STAR-based questions from 3-4 interviewers. If you do well there, the last step is a technical interview. This one's tough; they can ask about anything data science-related. Many questions were about machine learning, but there were some surprises too.

I sent in my application and an internal recruiter got back to me in a couple days to set up an initial screening call on MS Teams, on camera. We scheduled it, and I was ready early, but then I waited about 15 minutes. I got an IM saying they were running late and would be there soon. After another 10 minutes with no word, I suggested we reschedule, since we were almost 30 minutes into the scheduled time. They agreed, and we had a good call on video a couple days later. Next, I was moved to the 2nd round, which involved a couple of at-home assessments, including a JOFI, which took about an hour. The recruiter liked my answers and how they fit the role, so I moved on to the 3rd round, an in-person interview with the hiring manager. It seemed to go okay, but they asked a lot about my direct management or coaching experience, even though that wasn't a main requirement in the job description. After a month of hearing nothing, I saw the role posted again on LinkedIn, with two different titles leading to the same single role on their website. The job description was still the same. I applied again and also tried to reach out to the recruiter, but still no response. It's really disappointing because I know I'd be great in this role and help create a positive learning environment, but the way the Steelcase recruiting team handled this has left a bad impression, and I definitely won't be recommending them.
