So, for this Project Manager role focused on the contingent workforce, the hiring criteria were kinda unclear. It was really emphasized that you needed experience with contingent workforce and to be local to San Francisco. But after I went through the whole process, they hired someone who didn't have contingent workforce experience and wasn't local, even though they said that was a must. It felt like they had a totally different person in mind than what they advertised. It didn't seem like they were looking for experienced contingent workforce pros, even though the job was about that. This whole thing with the job description, what they talked about in the interviews, and who they actually hired was confusing and made me lose faith in the process. My advice to management would be to be straight up about what they're really looking for, make sure the job descriptions match what they actually want, and be open about who they're prioritizing. That way, candidates' time isn't wasted, there's more trust, and the whole candidate experience gets better.

I applied on their website and HR reached out the day after. The interview process was simple: first a round with HR, then a round with the Hiring Manager. Both went great, and the Hiring Manager even asked about my start date. The day after that interview, HR called with great feedback from the Hiring Manager, saying they'd follow up with an offer after internal talks. I was hopeful and even started prepping for onboarding. A week later, no news. I followed up, and HR said to wait. I suspected then I wasn't chosen. After two more weeks, I emailed to ask if I could close the process. HR again asked me to wait and promised an update in a week, which ended up being a rejection. It looks like post-interview feedback is standard at Sephora, so don't get too hopeful based on positive feedback alone. In my experience, if there's no follow-up in a week, you're usually not the final pick.

Got a call from a recruiter about jobs and my interest/timeline. They talked about benefits and asked why I wanted to work at Sephora. Then I had a phone interview with the recruiter a week later. We talked about the Store Manager role, training, and they asked a lot of behavioral questions typed into a form. They said they'd be in touch about next steps. The recruiter was nice, but it felt like a lot of hoops, especially if you'd rather talk to the hiring manager. I got an email saying I didn't get the job, even with my experience. I feel like I couldn't get my experience across well enough. Disappointed and won't apply again even though they encouraged it. Retail is about relationships, and the end of this process felt cold.

The first step was a quick phone call with a recruiter, which was different from past experiences where interviews were longer or involved answering questions to an AI via video. This recruiter call was just a few fast questions. After that, I had a full video interview with a district manager. It felt very friendly and casual. I answered everything with confidence, but I was a bit unsure about the response I gave when told that staff only get 1 out of every 4 weekends off. I think that might have prevented me from moving to the next stage.
