Credit Controller
I applied for the Credit Controller job and got invited for a phone screen really fast. The phone call was chill and went well; we talked about my experience and the process. Two days later, I was called to confirm my availability for the next interview. After that, I waited a week to ask for an update. I called the number and was told that due to half term, it might take longer. I was fine with that and waited another week. I emailed but got no reply. A few days later, I tried calling again with no luck. After 3 weeks of waiting, I was told they decided to go with another candidate. I accept that I wasn't picked, but I can't accept being ghosted. Even if they'd offered me the job, I wouldn't have wanted it because a company that treats applicants like this doesn't align with my values.
- How do you foster good customer relationships?
Product Data Manager
HR reached out the day after I applied to schedule a screening call. We talked about my resume, benefits, the hybrid schedule (4 days in office at Racine, WI, 1 remote), and vacation days. After that, HR was supposed to set up an interview with the hiring manager for that same week. I got the HM's name but no contact info, and she was supposed to call me. She never did, which felt like a joke. I contacted HR, and about 10 minutes after the scheduled call time, HR called me back and we rescheduled, with some weak excuse given. HR emailed the next day and we rescheduled again because the HM was busy. Finally, the HM called, but was 5 minutes late. I almost didn't think she'd show. She didn't apologize for being late or acknowledge the previous missed call, just a vague 'sorry we had to reschedule.' My attempts to build rapport didn't work. She was hard to read, had a flat affect, and gave minimal feedback after my answers. She just moved on after I answered in detail. The interview was very mission-oriented, lasting 15 minutes, and I got the last 10 minutes to ask my questions. She never seemed interested and always said things like 'If you get selected.' She seemed to expect everyone to work around her schedule. The interaction was brief, and she showed poor interpersonal skills. It was a waste of time. I should have applied elsewhere. I think it would have been bad working for her. Companies expect interviewees to be perfect, but interviewers don't. I got a personal rejection email from HR 2 days later, which was good because I knew to move on quickly.
- Can you tell me about your background and how it's relevant to this role?
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
- And how are you working on those strengths and weaknesses?
Marketing Associate
I applied for a Marketing role with SC Johnson Lifestyle Brands and it was a really bad experience. It took two months and several interview rounds. One round involved a big presentation where I had to come up with strategies and recommendations, which felt like free work. Even though I put in a lot of time and effort, I just got a short, unhelpful rejection email. The communication was bad the whole time. HR didn't answer simple questions, and some interviewers seemed confused about the job. It seemed like nobody knew what was going on or was in a hurry. I'm worried about how that team functions. It felt like they just wanted ideas from us instead of actually considering us for the job. I wouldn't recommend this to others unless you want your time and skills wasted.
- How would you contribute to lifestyle brands?
Supply Chain Analyst
The interview process was very smooth and felt like a discussion. It was a comfortable environment and the interviewers were very friendly. There were only two stages. The second stage was a panel interview with the hiring manager and functional leads.
- Can you tell me about yourself?
- What are your strengths?
- What are your weaknesses?
