It was a really messy and confusing interview process. I went through four rounds, talking to different managers. The company was restructuring, which changed the job and the hiring managers. All my interviews seemed to go well and I got positive feedback, but then at the end, they said they couldn't offer the job because of the restructuring. It was a bummer because they could have figured this out earlier. It felt like a big waste of time with no clear communication.

It was a bizarre experience. When I arrived, the hiring manager seemed unaware that she had an interview scheduled and mistook me for another candidate who was supposed to be there earlier. She even showed me the list of candidates she had already interviewed that day before finally sitting down to interview me. The role was advertised as full-time, but she repeatedly asked if I could start part-time, sharing stories about how others began part-time and gradually learned the skills to move to full-time. She even mentioned someone who started part-time and was made full-time within two days, and explicitly stated she was hiring for a part-time role for a different Lloyds brand, asking if there was any way I could do part-time, which I refused. Initially, she was the only interviewer, but midway through, another lady joined, whom the hiring manager introduced as the person she had been trying to reach to start the interview. The interview lasted about an hour and included star-based questions and others like my initial impressions of the branch, promoting a product, promoting digital banking, and handling difficult customers. Later, I received an email from HR stating my application was rejected due to my assessment results. Honestly, it was hilarious, and I'm glad I didn't get the job. Given this disorganized and dishonest attitude during the interview, I can only imagine what the company culture is like. I should have realized when I received the interview confirmation late, just two evenings before the interview. Oh well, their loss, as I've been hired by a much bigger bank.

I had a call from an enthusiastic recruiter who'd seen my CV and realised it matched a role at Lloyds. The whole experience was very positive, as were the follow-up calls and the interview itself. The first interview was an informal chat to see if the role would be a good fit, and the second was more technical but still very sociable. Nadine called back to offer me the role, and described the benefits. All in all, an excellent experience.

Behavioral Technical Case Presentation

It usually starts with a short call (20–30 minutes) with a recruiter. They'll want to know about your motivation, if you get SSE and the energy sector, and some basic competency stuff. Then, there's an Assessment Centre or Virtual Interview. For summer placements, this might be totally online or a half-day in-person thing. This part can have a competency-based interview where they ask behavioural questions using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) focusing on teamwork, problem-solving, communication, and adaptability. There might also be a Technical / Business Case Discussion where you'll look at a scenario related to SSE Thermal projects, like figuring out if a hydrogen-ready power plant is a good idea.
