Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Lloyds Banking Group.
Credit Risk Analyst
The recruitment process started with submitting a CV and completing an online application. Following this, candidates were invited to an assessment centre, bypassing any initial video or telephone screenings. The assessment centre itself consisted of three parts: a group exercise, an interview, and a case study with a presentation. The group exercise involved an informal debate where participants were divided into two teams, discussing general topics like NHS privatisation. The interview was conducted by two interviewers and focused almost exclusively on competency-based questions related to teamwork, customer service, and communication. For the case study, candidates were provided with information on two potential business strategies, requiring them to calculate financials, explain them, and suggest potential future risks or improvements. This case study was then presented to three assessors who posed questions. The overall atmosphere of the assessment centre was quite relaxed, and it offered opportunities to interact with various team members.

The interview process started with a phone interview, followed by a face-to-face meeting. The phone interview involved discussing my research on the company, my motivation for the role, and my experience with teamwork. The face-to-face interview included a technical test using Excel, which was more about understanding a detailed report than advanced technical skills. They also asked cultural fit questions and about my coding knowledge, though it wasn't a primary focus. The on-site interview was with the hiring manager and another manager, lasted under an hour, and I heard back within 24 hours. After accepting the offer, the paperwork was quite extensive and time-consuming, requiring a high level of detail, which was different from my previous experience at another UK retail bank. Despite this, it's still a worthwhile company to join.
- What evidence do you have that you would be a good fit for this role?

So the process started with an online application and some tests, pretty standard stuff. After that, I had an assessment centre in Cardiff. This involved a group exercise, an individual case study presentation, and a competency-based interview. The group exercise was a debate, which I didn't really enjoy because it felt super competitive, and with 12 people it was tough for everyone to get a word in. I'm more used to teamwork exercises from other assessment centres. The case study was alright, but it would have been tough without some basic knowledge of APR and credit cards. The one-to-one interview had pretty standard competency questions, but it felt more like a checklist than a real conversation.
- Can you tell me why you are interested in working at Lloyds?
- Describe a time when you demonstrated leadership.
- Tell me about an instance where you had to convey complex information.
