First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Fifth Third.
Data Scientist
The interview process included a 30-minute behavioral session and a 30-minute technical session. During the behavioral part, they asked common questions like 'Tell me about yourself', 'Why 5/3?', 'Describe a time you disagreed with a teammate', and 'What's your biggest strength?'. For the technical part, you were given a prompt and asked to write basic SQL queries. They also asked how you might use the provided data differently or what extra data you'd include for a more insightful analysis.
- What is your biggest weakness?
Personal Banker
I applied for a personal banker 1 job and the recruiter mentioned I might be a good fit for a PB II role. Despite this being a career step back, I was interested due to the bank's reputation for good pay and work-life balance, especially since I have extensive banking experience including management and loans. I had two more interviews, one with the financial center manager and another with the regional manager. They eventually offered me the Personal Banker I position, which surprised me as I thought I was interviewing for a II. The offer was $23 an hour with 17 days of PTO (vacation, sick, personal combined) and a 6-day work week involving community prospecting to build a client base. I feel this salary and PTO package are low for a role requiring significant skill, knowledge, time, and versatility, especially considering taxes and other deductions, and the demanding schedule. With over a decade of experience, 17 days off is not a generous amount in 2025. While everyone was nice, the compensation felt like entry-level pay for a position with substantial responsibility, especially compared to my previous fully remote role where I earned more than double per hour and had an additional 10 days off annually. I believe 5/3, and banks in general, should re-evaluate their salary standards.
- What is it about 5/3 that interests you?
Personal Banker
The interview process starts with a recruiter from 5/3 calling to chat about your background and experience. If that goes well, you'll have a formal virtual interview with a regional manager. Finally, if you get the job, the recruiter will call back to discuss the offer. The regional manager for the NC Raleigh area asked questions that were a bit vague but they wanted a specific type of answer. For example, instead of asking if you were ever late to work, they asked what weaknesses your manager would share, implying they wanted to hear that you were late. It would have been better if they just asked directly. Neither the recruiter nor the manager made it clear that the job would involve spending a lot of time outside the branch doing 'outreach'.
- Can you share an instance where you dealt with a challenging customer and how you handled it?
- What are three weaknesses your manager would mention about you if I contacted them right now?
Digital Technology Intern
It was a back-to-back behavioral and technical interview. For behavioral, they introduced themselves, then I introduced myself, and it was a good opportunity for a 'tell me about yourself' question. They also asked about my campus involvement. I was surprised there weren't any 'tell me about a time' questions. They asked if I had been exposed to the specific technologies they were working on. For the technical part, they asked about specific technologies and technical questions, but no LeetCode style questions.
