The process was pretty quick, about a week after I applied online. The interview itself took about 45 minutes and felt pretty comfortable. It was more like they were seeing if I was a good fit for the store and the position, with typical interview questions. They gave me plenty of time to think. The interview was at the store I applied to, with the store manager and the district manager. I heard back a week or two later and was offered the position, which I accepted.

First, you get an email to confirm you're still interested. Then, a phone call to see if you meet the basic requirements. After that, a virtual interview with a regional recruiter where they ask you some basic questions. Your answers get sent to the local branch. They'll get back to you in a couple weeks to let you know if you're moving on to a final in-person interview or if you didn't make it.

You typically apply online via Fastenal’s website, which will prompt you for your email to forward a unique application link. From there, HR at their main office goes over your information to check if your skills align—this can take up to a couple weeks. If they do like your profile, you’ll get an invite for a quick phone chat—usually only about 5 minutes—and you can ring them during business hours (Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM CST).

Technical Coding

The interview experience was good overall. My technical skills in .NET and Angular were assessed and deemed strong. However, I was ultimately rejected because I am not currently using Angular in my project, which I found perplexing as this seems like a detail that could have been identified during the initial screening. I felt I answered the Angular questions well, and all my .NET and SQL questions were answered effectively.
