First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Vestas Wind Systems.
Project Manager
I applied online via the Vestas careers portal and heard back from a recruiter in about 2-3 weeks. They scheduled an initial screening call where we talked about my background, salary expectations, and if I seemed like a good fit. Then, I had an interview with the hiring manager. After that, I was asked to do a Hogan Assessment (which checks personality & leadership traits) and an IQ Test. The third interview was with the hiring manager and HR, and it was more focused on the Hogan results, discussing my work style and leadership. I got an offer 3 days after this last interview.

Inventory Partner
Applied online. A recruiter emailed me and we set up a panel interview. They missed the initial appointment, so I agreed to reschedule for the next day. The following week, I interviewed with their boss. I was told they'd contact me in a couple of weeks, but it's been a month. I emailed the recruiter for an update with no response. I also sent two thank you emails to be forwarded to the hiring team, still no reply. The entire process has taken over two months, and I've been ghosted with no communication. Companies like Vestas need to show more respect for candidates' time and effort. I was flexible when they were disorganized and late, and I put in 100% effort, but got nothing back. It's wrong to leave candidates hanging without an answer. My perception of Vestas has changed; if this is their external communication, I can only imagine the internal situation.
- Can you tell me about your background and walk me through your resume?
Contract Manager
I was selected based on my CV for a contract manager role needing at least 5 years of experience, which I have (over 20). First, there was an AI interview with timed questions, allowing retries. It felt like the AI analyzed everything, so I tried to be smooth. Next, a junior recruiter called with standard questions about my suitability, expertise (which seemed redundant after the AI interview), and crucially, my desired gross annual salary. Despite my request for a proposal, I had to state my expectations. After checking similar roles and salaries, I submitted an estimated gross annual salary, stating it was a proposal and I was open to negotiation. A week later, the recruiter informed me my salary expectation was about 1/3 over their budget, hence rejection without counter-proposals, a decision backed by management. I question Vestas's salary policies across countries and their lack of salary proposals or counter-offers, which seems unprofessional and opportunistic, possibly aiming for cost savings.
- What should be done upon receiving a contract?
- Could you state your expected gross salary per year?
Product Designer
I first spoke with a recruiter in Poland who asked some follow-up questions. Then I got an invite for a Teams interview with the hiring manager and a PM. The manager was pretty rude from the start, immediately mentioning the large candidate pool she'd already seen, without any other intro. She went on about it for a bit, even saying only a 'few lucky ones' would advance. That felt really rude, dismissive, and intimidating, and not aligned with what I'd expect from the company. It was tough to recover from that comment and stay positive for the rest of the interview, so I decided to withdraw from the process because it was a major red flag. I don't think all candidates were treated this way, but if they were, I question who would tolerate that and what it says about the actual company culture.
- Could you share what you like most about design?
- Do you have any questions for the Product Manager?
