Behavioral Case

To start, the interview process was standard. However, this was my first interview and it was unusual to have the HR manager present. They then asked a lot of questions about Sysco, specifically about pursuing major clients. I was caught off guard by these questions and gave generic answers, as I'm not going to give away my value for free in an interview. After several questions, the interviewer got up, shook my hand, and walked me out. It felt like a complete waste of my time.

The interview process had multiple rounds. It began with a recruiter call that felt informal and the rep was helpful, though they used some prepared questions. Following that, there was a second, more formal round with very scripted questions that were predictable and could be prepared for.

First, I had a good chat with the recruiter who was nice and explained the process. Then, I had to do a take-home case study which was more of a data science/ML problem and not really related to supply chain optimization. The data was messy and the questions weren't very clear. It was annoying to spend hours on something unrelated to the job before even having a real interview. The interview with the hiring manager wasn't great either. We talked about my resume, but he didn't seem to understand optimization or how to assess my experience. He felt more like a peer and mentioned they had a separate OR team he spoke negatively about, and this role was to build those capabilities on his team. We didn't click, and it felt like I'd be stepping into politics. The whole process was off-putting. I got an automated rejection email over a week later.

The interview process could be better. It wasn't very professional. The call didn't start on time, so I had to initiate contact to get started. Then, they told me the person I was supposed to talk to wasn't available and someone else did the interview. This new person didn't seem to know about the job or the location I applied for, and didn't even know about the interview. After I told them, they mentioned a location hours away, which showed they weren't paying attention. The audio was also bad, and the interviewer sounded unprofessional, like they were hung over, and annoyed when I asked for clarification because of the bad reception. This was a phone interview scheduled over a week in advance and it made me question the company culture.
