I had a good initial screening call and got to chat with the hiring manager. Even though I got rejected, I was bummed that I didn't get any specific feedback. It would have been helpful for learning and improving. The generic rejection felt impersonal since the process had already gone past the application stage. The decision itself wasn't the problem; it was the lack of helpful feedback that was disappointing.

There were two interviews. The first one was theory based, asking about my understanding of change. The second interview was scenario based, focusing on how I'd apply change management principles. I was told I'd hear back by the end of the week, but it's been over a month. I've followed up with both the interviewer and the recruitment team, but there's been no update, so I assume I wasn't successful. This has left me with a poor impression of the company.

The interview process has been very streamlined, which is a relief. It started with a situational judgement online test, followed by a logic/mathematical ability online test. Then, it moved straight to an in-person group task, which was fun. I heard back within an hour afterwards, and was offered the final stage, which will be a 10 minute presentation and a 15 minute interview. The focus is on seeing candidates in action rather than long interviews, and I’ve found that refreshing!

Because I'm already working here, the interview process is a bit different. Usually, my current manager knows I'm looking for a new role, which can be a bit awkward if I decide to stay or if I don't get the job. If a role is only posted for a short time, it's probably already set for someone and just being posted for show. Manager roles are super tough to get because they're often already decided before the job is even advertised on the SSE careers site. I know this from talking to people in those roles I applied for. This seems to happen in SSE Renewables and Distribution. I haven't worked in other SSE businesses, so I can't say about Transmission and Enterprise.
