Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SSE.
Project Engineer
Had a phone call interview where they asked common questions about my background and skills to see if I'd be a good fit. Towards the end, they got into more technical questions related to the specific area I'd be working in.
- Based on your current experience, explain why you are suitable for this position.
- Can you provide some technical insights regarding the specific domain of this role?
Design Engineer
The first step was a video call with the hiring manager and a team member. It was pretty laid-back, more like a casual conversation about my background and abilities, and learning more about the job and team. They framed it as having 6 parts covering competencies, with a brief technical bit at the end. It wasn't really about getting specific answers right, just seeing how I'd explain things. They showed some network situations and command-line outputs and asked questions about them. I didn't hear back for three weeks and wasn't selected. I'm still waiting for the promised feedback from HR.
- What motivated your application for this position?
Design Engineer
After my CV got screened, I had one final interview. It was with two senior design engineers and lasted about 1hr 30mins. They asked a lot of situational questions based on the company's core values, like one about demonstrating attention to safety. The interview itself felt positive, with good questions, and the interviewers seemed really enthusiastic about their work. Unfortunately, SSE never got back to me about the outcome for 5 months.
- Can you share an instance where you demonstrated attention to safety?
- Describe a situation where you adhered to health and safety protocols.
