First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at NHS England.
Data Scientist Intern
The interview happened soon after I applied and was really focused on the project I applied for. It was a lot about my technical skills, especially with the tech I'd used before, and how I'd tackle the problem using algorithms. They dug deep, asking about different parts of the project and possible issues, like considering how both patients and doctors would use it. They were really open to talking things through instead of just asking questions. I also got to ask about the daily work and how the team is, and they were honest about it. Even though they said I was a top candidate, I didn't get an offer because of funding. They were upfront about it, which I appreciated. They could only fund one position and went with other projects.

The interview process involved two rounds. The first round was a presentation followed by a competency-based interview with the hiring manager, an independent panelist, and the Deputy Director. The presentation was 5 minutes long, and the interview lasted between 45-60 minutes. The second interview was with the Deputy Director to check if I would fit in with the team.

The interview had 8 questions in total, which were a mix of scenario and knowledge based questions. Two people interviewed me. After the interview, I found out the outcome within 2 hours. They said they would call between 5 and 6pm and they did. They gave me very constructive and helpful feedback and answered any questions I had. Overall a positive experience.
