Programme Manager
The interview process included two tests alongside the main interview. The interview was competency-based. They asked questions like 'this role involves managing a team and overseeing 10 major projects, can you tell us about a time where you have managed a team and multiple projects, and can you tell us about any challenges and how you managed them?'. In addition to this, I had to make a presentation on a specified question, present to the panel, and manage a Question and Answer session. Finally, I was given a paper and asked to imagine that I was the manager for the programme and that I needed to review the paper and give feedback to the team member.
- Tell me about a situation where you had to handle a request from a very senior person while managing existing deadlines. What was your response, and what actions did you take?
- Can you describe a time when you managed a team and multiple projects simultaneously? What challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them?
- Given a paper, act as the programme manager and provide feedback to the team member who wrote it.
Program Manager
It took a few weeks for the advertised job post to appear, but then things moved along as expected. The interview was online with a panel of three people. They asked competency-based questions, like the ones often used in the NHS. For instance, 'Tell me about a time when you...'. The interview lasted 40 minutes, and I heard back about the outcome within 24 hours, just as they had stated.
- Can you explain your motivation for applying to this position?
- Could you share an instance of how you promote diversity and inclusion?
Program Manager
Applied through trac. Regular NHS application form. It included a presentation and interview questions, with the usual EDI question. The interview lasted about an hour, and they didn't ask too many tough questions. It's a good idea to reach out to the team beforehand for an informal chat, as there are many internal candidates, even from the same team, so you never know who you're up against.
- Can you give an example of how you've promoted equality, diversity, and inclusion in past jobs and explain the impact you had?
- What are your strategies for encouraging diversity and building an inclusive environment, and how would you track progress?
- Tell me about a situation where you had to present complex and potentially controversial plans so that various audiences could comprehend and agree with them.
