First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mercedes-Benz International.
Graduate Engineer Trainee
The interview process was pretty straightforward and relaxed, mostly focusing on my experiences both in and out of university. I felt it was quite chill, and the interviewers were really polite, smart, and professional.
- Tell me about your experiences in the automotive, engineering, and motorsport industries.
- What kind of work, passions, and interests do you have outside of these technical areas?
- Can you share your passion for working on vehicles?
Intern
The process started in early March with an online game of general knowledge questions, which was quite simple. After that, I did an online group activity with other candidates where we were asked to prepare a presentation about improvements to the line. Then there was an online interview where my English was tested, along with some general questions and information about my resume. Finally, I had an interview with the area managers. They don't contact us to give feedback on the process; it's now the end of April and I haven't heard anything back.
- Can you tell me why you'd like to work at Mercedes?
- What specifically about the internship program caught your eye?
- What information do you have about Mercedes?
Senior QA Engineer
The process starts with an HR interview, which is pretty straightforward, just to gauge your interests and motivations. The technical interview wasn't what I'd call difficult, but it felt a bit misdirected or unfocused. I interviewed with two technical folks, one of them being a manager. They asked me to introduce myself and talk about my experience, and then they asked various questions about the processes or methodologies they use. They try to make it seem like they're a big group using a cutting-edge agile methodology, but it's nothing out of the ordinary these days. My advice for other QAs is to clearly explain what you do, how you do it, and why. A QA isn't a developer, and the technical interview shouldn't be the same. If they steer it that way, you'll know your interviewer doesn't know much about the position they need to fill or the profile they're looking for.
- Have you used or do you know SAFe?
- Are the DoD met in your company?
Brand Engagement and Partnerships Intern
I had to make an account and basically redo my whole resume on their ATS, and write a cover letter specific to the job and company which took ages. After that, I had a Hirevue interview where I got random questions and only a minute to think. Then, I had a call with the Hiring Manager and Head of Brand Engagement, which seemed good at first. But then it got bad and unprofessional - I got ghosted, which was rude after all the work I put in. Even my follow-up emails were ignored twice. I don't want to work for a company that doesn't respect my time. Not even a quick email to say the job was filled, especially after I followed up, shows their work culture. Definitely dodged a bullet though.
- What makes you want this job? Can you handle the commute to Mississauga?
- Are you okay with working extra hours, including weekends?
- Tell me about an event you remember attending or putting together.
