First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mercedes-Benz International.
Marketing
The interview process included an initial phone interview followed by an in-person interview. I think you can judge a place by not only how you are treated during the interview process but more importantly how you are treated afterwards. I have interviewed at several automotive companies and this was by far the most disappointing. The initial things that I noticed was that no one seemed to be happy or optimistic from HR to reception. The actual in-person interview was very unprofessional. The interviewers seemed very unprepared. They did not prepare any questions in advance, were very low energy, did not take any notes, had no idea what the next steps in the process and one of the interviewers did not even make eye contact with me during the entire interview (stared out the glass). I thought perhaps their strange behaviour was a 'test' because I had heard they make you write a PPA test to see how you handle pressure, but even after my follow ups I did not receive any emails thanking me for my time or that they were going in another direction. They kept you in the dark. Overall, I was very disappointed and although I was not offered a position I would not have accepted if I was.
- Could you start by telling me about yourself?
- What would you consider to be your greatest weakness?
- What are your reasons for wanting to join Mercedes?
Marketing
It was a 3-round interview. The first was with the formal intern, who asked me about the internship and my student club activities, and volunteer experiences. The second was with my supervisor, who asked me some behavior questions to decide if I'm a good fit for the position. The last was with the HR department, where there was a group case discussion and an English oral test.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- What do you think is crucial when communicating with a manager?
Marketing
The department manager and HR specialist interviewed me concurrently, which was quite distracting trying to answer both technical and competency questions. I felt like they hadn't really gone over my CV in detail, because at the end, they decided I was too academic for a marketing role. They did cover my travel expenses though.
