Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mercedes-Benz International.
Product Manager
The interview process was pretty fair. It included five interviews and a take-home assignment. The team leader was really nice, although some questions felt a bit too theoretical and generic, like the ones you find online for PM interviews, instead of focusing on real daily tasks. Overall though, it was a good experience.
- Can you describe a feature you developed that positively impacted the product?
Product Manager
The interview was with HR and the Marketing Manager for the Vans and Trucks Division. I felt good about my 9 years of experience, including 3 in e-mobility, and my fit for the role. They were interested in my EV background. The marketing manager seemed to be the decision-maker and was disengaged, making the interview feel like a Q&A session. I was disappointed because I focused on the e-mobility aspect, but it seemed they were also looking for traditional ICE drivetrain knowledge, despite the job title. After two weeks, I was told they chose another candidate who fit the profile better.
- What makes you prefer Mercedes over competitors, and if VW offered a similar role, why would you pick us?
- Could you tell us what car you currently drive?
- Imagine you have a budget X and 5 vehicles; how would you allocate them?
Product Manager
Got a response to my application and then an invite for the first interview which I confirmed. The first interview was with HR, and I struggled to understand their questions. They mostly asked about my previous internship at ExxonMobil, like how I handled tough situations, my responsibilities, and my strengths/weaknesses. They also asked about my availability and student status. After a few days, they called to offer a second interview for a different position. I accepted and was interviewed by two people, including my predecessor. After that, HR called to offer me the job and went over the details like accommodation, salary, and visa. The HR team was really helpful and nice.
- Can you describe the hardest situation you faced during your previous internship and how you resolved it?
