My interview experience for a UX/UI Designer role in London started really well, but it ended up being a bit all over the place and I was left disappointed. First, I had a chat with someone in Canada who was great; they laid out the role and the interview plan clearly. Then, I went to London for an in-person interview where I met a senior designer and showed them my portfolio. That went super well too – we really clicked talking about design, learning, and client stuff. After that, there was a take-home assignment that felt a bit off. The brief seemed more about an internal exercise than what the actual job would involve, like strategic thinking or real UX/UI work, and it felt like a lot to do for what it was. The last step was meeting the CEO in person. We talked about the company culture, working with developers and other designers, and their future plans. I even got a tour of the office, which made it seem like things were progressing nicely. But then, after all that time, travel, and effort, I just got a standard rejection email. They said it was between me and one other person, but the job keeps getting posted again, which was a bummer and didn't feel right based on what they'd said. I think they should look at their process to make it clearer, make sure the tasks match the job better, and be more upfront about the outcome, especially with the time commitment involved.

My interview with Konrad Group involved three parts: first, an intro call, then a one-hour case study presentation where they asked me some questions, and finally a two-hour design challenge. The design challenge was kind of weird because it said it should be completely offline, but then they wanted extra research to support the designs. I put in more than four hours of my own time getting ready for the presentation and challenge, so it was disappointing that I didn't get any feedback afterwards, even after asking. It was still a good learning experience though, but the process could have definitely been clearer and more helpful.

So there were 4 rounds total. First, a quick chat with a recruiter. Then, a technical interview which was the main challenge, involving some system design overview questions, a code review where I could pick a language like Java or Python, and a whiteboard coding problem. After that, I had a take-home assessment, mostly front-end stuff with React/vanilla JS. The final round was with the CTO, focusing on culture fit.

The interview process involved an initial video call with someone from talent acquisition. Then, there was a portfolio walkthrough with a senior designer or design lead, and it's highly recommended to have 3+ case studies and design projects ready in a slide presentation. After that, there was a remote design test, which included an hour of whiteboarding, a 2.5-hour design task, and a presentation to several hiring people. This was followed by a chat with the VP, and then an offer. The whole thing was pleasant and professional. I stopped after the first round though because I was unclear about what they were looking for. It felt like you had to be incredibly skilled to get to the end and receive an offer.
