First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Konrad Group.
Product Designer
I had a video call with HR that went well. Then, I had a second interview in downtown Toronto with a senior designer. I had to travel for this hour-long interview. They recommended I prepare a slide deck of my portfolio instead of just showing my website. I did this, and it went well. They then invited me to a third interview, which was a 4-hour assignment. This assignment had two parts. First, I had to do a whiteboarding exercise where I brainstormed ideas for a travel app while two people watched me silently. This was uncomfortable because the instructions were vague and I wasn't sure what they were looking for. Second, I had to redesign a hotel website page to make it feel more luxurious. I created a cool concept and presented it back to them. The senior designer was nice, but the design lead was a bit condescending and kept asking 'Is that it?'. I spent about 10-15 hours on the entire interview process. After the assignment, they waited two weeks to inform me that they had chosen another candidate.
- Can you brainstorm an app to assist with travel planning?
- How would you present your portfolio?
- What's your approach to redesigning a hotel website page for a more luxurious feel?
Product Designer Intern
I had the recruiter screening interview last October. He asked me some background questions and described the interview process, which involves a first screening and then an in-person portfolio presentation. He also talked about the responsibilities.
- Could you introduce yourself?
- Why are you interested in working for this company?
- What sparked your interest in Design?
Product Designer
The team I was interviewing for wasn't clear. The design challenge was just okay, and I wasn't sure what they were looking for. The interviewer was really nice and gave feedback. The whole experience was pretty standard, not amazing or terrible.
- Could you design a bill splitting application for the design challenge?
