First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at International Paper.
Software Engineer
So I went to the career fair and was able to schedule an interview with the company. They asked me around 8 to 10 questions. It started off with me introducing myself, and then they asked 'Have you ever had an experience like ... and how did you respond to it?' types of questions.
- Tell us about yourself.
- What is your understanding of safety?
- Describe a time you had a conflict with a coworker and how you handled it.
Accountant
The interview process was okay. There was a recruiter screening that didn’t have any issues. In the last round of interviews, the panel just read off a sheet of paper of a list of approved questions. None of them had to do with accounting and all of them were behavioral questions. However, after the final round of interviews, I was ghosted without an update saying I didn’t get the job even after following up on it.
- Tell me about a time you disagreed with someone.
Manufacturing Engineer
Found them at the Career Fair at my university. They held on-campus interviews the following day. Very fair questions. They wrote as I talked looking for problem, steps, and result of your direct action. This position is great for someone who has worked around heavy machinery. I was offered to continue the interview process but declined based on location.
- Can you share an instance where a project encountered an issue, and describe how you resolved it?
- What is your experience working in a diverse environment?
- Tell me about a personal goal outside of academics that you have achieved or plan to achieve.
Maintenance Technician
The process started with a phone call to go over basic info and verify experience and certifications. Then, there was an online test for mechanical aptitude and another for personality or work behavior traits. The next step was to go to the facility for an in-house test and exam. These were more advanced than expected, with about 100 questions and a 2-hour time limit. It was a tough test, requiring knowledge of shop and industrial settings. Passing this led to a panel interview and a job offer.
- Are you open to working the night shift?
