First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at International Paper.
Business Analyst
This was a very competency-based interview. They asked "Tell me about a time when...". The interviews are a mix of in-person and virtual, and are panel style. I'd suggest using the STAR method to talk through the skills listed in the job posting and your examples. Confidence and preparation are really key.
- Could you share an instance where you developed a report that effectively addressed and resolved a problem?
Business Analyst
I applied online through my university. I had three interviews. One was motivational, one was a business case, and the last was motivational and competency-based. All the interviews were with people from the business, mostly management, except for a quick HR phone screening after I applied. The business case was consulting-like, quite tough, and not related to paper and packaging.
- What makes you want this position?
- Why are you interested in IP?
- Can you estimate the weight of a rim of paper?
Systems Analyst
I had a phone call with the hiring manager for the department. Then I had a phone interview, which was a good experience. They asked me technical questions about Active Directory and Windows server, and also some personality interview questions. After that, we chatted for a minute. The manager seemed to really enjoy working there and made me want to work there. A few days later, I was called and asked for a face-to-face meeting with the team. I met with about 10-11 people at the players club parkway. Everyone was very fun and great. They asked some tough IT questions, some advanced and some basic skills, and I missed some of them! But overall the team was very meshed and it seems like somewhere I would love to work and learn from those guys.
- It's the simple questions that can be tricky, but I don't want to give away too much since others might be asked the same ones. Just try not to overthink your answers.
