Applied online and about a month later got a call to take a common sense test. It didn't seem to be related to the job itself, but more about reading comprehension and basic math. If you passed, you got a tour of the plant. Then, about a month and a half later, I was called for a panel interview with 2-3 managers. It was pretty relaxed and conversational. They asked some standard HR questions but also went off on follow-up questions about my answers. We talked a lot about my previous jobs, and I think they cut some questions short because they were running out of time. It seems to depend on who interviews you. Then, after another month to month and a half with no word, I got a job offer. They then set a date for paperwork, background check, health evaluation, and drug testing. You're hired if all pre-screens come back good. The process was pretty easy, but they really need to speed it up because I thought I didn't get the job due to the long wait. They've changed the process since I was hired to include hourly workers on the panels, but HR makes the final decision and doesn't seem to know much about the mill or value the hourly employees' opinions. They also only allow basic HR questions and not technical ones that would actually be relevant to the jobs. This leads to some unqualified people being hired, only to be fired within 6 months when they realize shift work and the industrial environment aren't for them. Many people are blindsided by the reality of the job and quit or get fired, wasting training time and money on pre-screens and pay.

I had an interview with the general manager and site manager that lasted about an hour. They asked me general questions about my background and experience. It wasn't a long or difficult interview. Overall, it was okay.

It was a really chill and direct interview. We just sat down, and they went through some script questions. They asked about how I handle specific situations and why I'd be looking to leave my current job, and also asked about whether they could contact my current employer.
