The interview process wasn't too tough, and the people I interacted with were all really nice. They didn't hit me with any difficult questions, which in hindsight, I probably should have questioned. It turns out they had layoffs happening, and they ended up hiring someone already within the company. It felt like a waste of my time if they knew that was the plan all along.

I went through 5 interviews with 5 different people: a Disney recruiter, the hiring manager, two peers, and the supervising team lead. Each interview lasted about 30 minutes. After these interviews, I followed up several times, but the recruiter said there were no updates. Weeks later, I was ghosted. The entire process felt like a waste of my time. I think Disney/Hulu could have at least told me if the business needs changed or if they weren't hiring for the role anymore, or at least that I didn't get the job. It was obvious I didn't get it after weeks of chasing them, but I expected better from a big corporation with HR teams. Maybe that's too much to ask.

The technical interview was a 60-minute session with the Disney+/Hulu/Disney streaming team in August 2024. We started with about 15 minutes for introductions and to talk about my experience. The remaining 45 minutes were dedicated to answering questions across three areas: SQL, Python, and a statistical reasoning discussion that didn't require coding but focused on a stats topic.

Confirmed questions6 questions
  • Regarding the database tables (subscriptions, personal details, stream data), how would you find the number of daily active subscriptions in 2019?
  • Using the same tables, how would you determine the count of male subscribers who engaged with at least three distinct titles in August, making sure to exclude any titles streamed for under three seconds?
  • Could you construct a class that accepts an array as input and then define a function within it?

Coding Technical

Had an initial call with HR about the role. Then, a 1-hour phone call where I was sent a Hackerrank link. I got a Leetcode Hard problem, a word ladder, that I solved using BFS within the time limit. The interviewer seemed impressed and said I'd hear back soon from HR. Unfortunately, after a couple of days with no word, I got an automated rejection email stating they were moving on with other candidates. This was frustrating because I solved the problem correctly and within the time limit. No other questions were asked, so I don't understand the rejection. My advice to Hulu's hiring team is to be more considerate of candidates' time, especially those with 2-3 years of experience applying for senior roles. I'd recommend others avoid Hulu.
