Software Engineer
This is a very engineering-focused interview process, not so much about putting on a show. People usually say it's respectful and not too stressful. It starts with a chat about your experience and how you like to work. Then, there's a take-home assignment that's like real product work, not just random algorithm stuff. Technical chats are about code quality, why you made certain choices, and how easy it will be to maintain the code later on. The interviewers actually want to know how and why you think, not just to trick you. It's a long and picky process that's good for engineers who care about good craftsmanship, clear code, and polished products. It feels more like working together than being tested.
- Could you discuss your projects and explain their relevance to this role?
Learning Specialist
After applying, the job I wanted was put on hold. A few months later, I got contacted for an interview. I was told to make a powerpoint presentation about why I was a good fit for the job, but I didn't get any specific instructions. The interview itself was okay, and I thought the questions were fine. They didn't seem to know anything about the presentation. I told them I made it using Canva with all the extra features. They just silently watched me present. They seemed upset about something. They asked what I was supposed to prepare, which was weird because I thought their recruiting team would know what they were asking candidates to do. Then, weeks of silence followed by a generic rejection. It was a terrible and rude experience.
- What are your strategies for working with marginalized groups?
Sales Associate
The interview process felt hurried and not very well thought out. The person interviewing me didn't seem genuinely interested in learning about me as a candidate; it was more like they were just going through a checklist. Some of the questions felt a bit condescending, as if they were questioning my responses instead of engaging with them. Rather than being a conversation, it felt like a one-sided and slightly dismissive experience, which made the whole thing awkward. Even the second interviewer seemed uncomfortable!
