Applied online and got contacted by a recruiter who explained the role, pay, and the interview process. The process had six rounds plus a project. Prepared my project and thought I'd present it and answer questions, but that didn't happen. The interviewers seemed unprepared and asked random questions not related to my project. Getting in touch with the recruiter after was difficult. When we finally talked, she said the interviewers felt I didn't show enough industry interest, even though I have a master's in it. She hinted that they wanted someone who wasn't a woman or POC.

The interview process involved three rounds: a screening interview, a skills test, and a final interview with the hiring manager and a senior team member. I reached the final stage but haven't heard back after 5 weeks, so I assume I was rejected, even though I haven't gotten a formal rejection email, despite following up with the recruiter and hiring manager. I had to take time off for each interview, and I put a lot of time into this recruitment process. Unprofessional.

Behavioral Technical Presentation Case

So the first thing was the HR interview, where we just chatted about my background and skills, and like, if I'd fit in with the company vibes. They asked about my past jobs, why I wanted this role, and what I could bring to the table. They also told me a bunch about the company and the job stuff. It felt like they were checking out my people skills, if I was a good match for the company, and if I was really into it. After that, I talked to the hiring manager. This was way more about the actual job. They hit me with some deep technical and 'what if' questions to see how much I knew and how I'd handle problems. We went over what the team does, what the job involves, and how my skills line up. The manager stressed how important teamwork, leadership, and communication are, and they wanted someone who could jump in and get things done. The last bit was meeting some of the people I'd be working with. It was more like a casual chat to see if we'd vibe together. We talked about what it's like to work there, how the team operates, and how my job would connect with everyone else's. They seemed most interested in if I'd be a good fit for the team dynamic, asking about how I handle working with others, deal with disagreements, and contribute to group efforts.

Behavioral Technical

I applied for a role at Dow Jones in Princeton, NJ. It started with a 20-minute call with the recruiter. Then there was a 2-hour test where I had to summarize two articles, one in English and another in a foreign language. After that, I was invited to interview with two research managers and the Director of research. The interview lasted about 40 minutes. Everyone was pretty friendly and I felt comfortable. About half the questions were behavioral, and the other half were about my research experience. The whole process took a little less than 3 months from when I first applied to getting a written offer.
