Behavioral Technical Coding Case

You apply on LinkedIn / Naukri. Recruiter screens your resume for SQL skills, data cleaning + reporting, Excel, Power BI, past projects, and communication. If shortlisted, the recruiter calls you to schedule an interview for the Data Analyst/SQL Developer role. Then there's an HR Screening Call (10–15 minutes) that checks communication, stability, genuineness, salary expectations, and notice period. Typical questions include: Tell me about yourself, your previous company experience, database technologies used, reasons for change, CTC, notice period, and comfort with office timings/location/WFH. If you clear, HR books Technical Round 1. Technical Round 1 (45–60 minutes) is mostly SQL + basic data analytics + scenario-based questions. They check SQL Joins, GROUP BY, HAVING, Window Functions, Query Optimization, Stored Procedures, Indexing, Data Cleaning logic, Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot), and Power BI basics. Example questions include finding the second highest salary, difference between WHERE and HAVING, using window functions for running totals, query optimization, normalization, and indexes. If cleared, you move to Technical Round 2. Technical Round 2 (Case Study Round) (45–60 minutes) is more practical. They give tasks like analyzing a dataset, creating SQL queries, explaining report building, writing a data cleaning pipeline, or debugging SQL queries. They might ask questions like finding top customers by revenue from orders, customers, and payments tables, calculating retention rate, or explaining a complex project. If cleared, you proceed to the Managerial Round. The Managerial / Hiring Manager Round (30–40 minutes) checks teamwork, ownership, real project experience, handling deadlines, communication & attitude, and problem-solving approach. Typical questions cover your role in previous companies, dealing with pressure, solving challenges, approaching difficult datasets, value addition, and query optimization in real projects.

Technical Presentation

I went through 4 rounds of interviews, and one of them involved a 30-minute PowerPoint presentation. After the final interview, HR contacted me, stating I was a top candidate and would send a benefits package and stay in touch. Despite following up at least 3 times, I was ghosted and never received a formal rejection. The HR recruiter stopped responding to my emails. It's frustrating to go through 4 rounds and a presentation only to be ghosted without even a rejection email.

Technical Coding System Design

The interview process had 2 interviewers. One was supposed to be a senior technical interviewer but was completely silent. The other was a junior with only 1 year of experience who was clearly just reading questions from Google. They expect interviews like top tech companies but their budget for compensation is not even a quarter of that. By focusing only on DSA and System Design, they are missing out on good developers who have actual experience solving real-world problems.

Confirmed questions8 questions
  • Can you tell me about your experience with microservices?
  • What are some common design patterns you've used?
  • Explain the SOLID principles.
