Got contacted by a recruiter for a part-time UX Writer/SME gig writing curriculum for Thinkful's UX BootCamp. I talked to the manager and got some homework. I had two options: do what they wanted or do my own thing. I chose my own since I was already working on writing UX curriculum and training. Then I met with two curriculum writers for an interview where they wanted me to write a user persona paragraph. I pushed back and pointed out the other option, which I did. They seemed a bit confused and immature. I never heard back, which is great, love being ghosted. The job was advertised as part-time, flexible with weekends and nights, but turns out the curriculum writers wanted to meet twice a week during the day. This wasn't ideal with my day job. Pay also seemed low for the industry experience required. I suspect they hire junior, inexperienced UX designers for curriculum writing based on their LinkedIn profiles.

My experience with Chegg's hiring process was really rough. A recruiter from Hired reached out first, and I was excited because I used Chegg in college. Even though she contacted me, I had to chase her down for an interview. The initial recruiter chat was brief, about 15 minutes, with a few questions, and it felt like she'd already made up her mind based on my background. Next was supposed to be a call with the hiring manager, but again, I had to bug the recruiter multiple times to set it up. I never heard back, even after sending my availability, so I figured I didn't get the job. Then, a few days later, the hiring manager kept calling and leaving voicemails about our scheduled interview. I had no clue we even had an interview set up that day because the recruiter never told me. I contacted her, and she said she scheduled it via Jobvite. I checked my Jobvite account, and there was no message about any interview. Plus, we'd been emailing the whole time, so why switch to a different platform without saying anything or replying to my emails? At that point, I was so over trying to interview with Chegg. Luckily, we got the interview rescheduled, and the hiring manager was cool about the whole mess. But honestly, the terrible communication really messed with my chances and made me not even want the job anymore.

There were 2 rounds of interviews done remotely. I first spoke with the recruiter, and then I spoke with the person responsible for creating the curriculum for the design course. I felt like I did well in the interviews, but unfortunately, I didn't get an offer in the end.
