Account Manager
I started with an HR screening, but the person seemed really checked out and didn't know anything about the role. I explained my experience, but she asked me things I'd already covered. She wasn't listening. I then got to the first interview where I felt I answered everything thoroughly. Things seemed to be going well, and HR even followed up twice about next steps. Then, out of nowhere, I got a generic rejection email. She asked me to add her on LinkedIn for future roles, but she never accepted. I asked for feedback and never got any. It was pretty weird. I guess I dodged a bullet.
- Can you describe your process for setting up campaigns from the very beginning?
Marketing
I got an email from a recruiter, and then we scheduled a phone screen. During the interview, the recruiter was nice but seemed rushed and didn't seem to listen to my answers. For example, I talked about why I left my last job in my 'tell me about yourself' answer, and then she asked me why I left my last company again. It felt like she wasn't paying attention. She responded to my answers with either 'absolutely' or 'amazing' every time. Even though I was well-qualified and would have been a good culture fit, I received a rejection email a few days later. The email suggested I check their LinkedIn for future openings and connect with her, but she didn't accept my connection request.
- Can you share a bit about yourself?
- What prompted your departure from your previous employer?
Data Analyst
First, there was an HR screening, it was chill and they asked about my current job and if I knew tools like python, R, excel, SQL, Google Analytics. The second round, I talked with a director and an associate director. We just chatted about my current role and my experience with analysis and modeling projects. It was a really nice atmosphere, honestly! Then, I had to do a presentation of a data analysis project. I only had two days to get it done, which was tight. The presentation itself went okay. They didn't interrupt me much, but they did ask things like, “how did you get that result?”, “what would you do differently if you had more time?”, and “how are the results meaningful for business decisions?”. Finally, I had an hour-long chat with the VP of the department. He was super friendly and asked about how I'd approach solving marketing problems. He was really open about the pros and cons of the job and stressed work-life balance. It felt more like catching up with a friend, no tricky questions, just all about personality.
- How would you communicate unfavorable outcomes to a client?
- What feedback would your colleagues give about you?
- What would you do if your model's results were not significant, even with your best effort?
Paid Search Manager
A recruiter reached out about this role, and I was super excited because their website made the company sound amazing with great benefits and culture. My initial interview with the recruiter was more technical than I expected. The questions felt a bit odd for just a screening, given recruiters usually don't have deep industry knowledge. I'm not sure if she really got what I was saying when I went into specific topics since she didn't share much about herself. The recruiter was also kind of abrasive and not very personable, which made me doubt the culture they advertised. Typically, recruiters share more about the position and team, but I didn't get much insight into the team or the projects I'd be working on. I ended up taking another offer because of this experience.
- How do you build client relationships and earn their trust?
- What resources do you read to stay current with the marketing world?
- Can you share an example of constructive criticism you've received?
