The whole thing took about 3 weeks. It began with a quick 20-minute chat with an HR recruiter to go over my background, current job, and why I wanted this role. Then, I had a 45-minute Zoom interview with the hiring manager, who wanted to know about my past projects and how I manage remote teams. The next step was a panel with two team leads and a stakeholder. They hit me with behavioral questions and a mini case study about handling scope creep in a project involving different departments. No technical tests or presentations, which was nice. The process felt pretty professional and straightforward, even though getting the times to line up was a bit of a hassle with the time zones. I got the offer about a week after the panel.

The interview at Western Union was pretty by the book and professional. It really dug into my past work with remittance ops, making sure I knew my stuff on compliance, and how I managed branches daily. They wanted to know all about AML/CFT, getting customers set up, watching transactions, reporting, and dealing with audits. They also checked if I got operational controls, risk management, and how I'd handle problems at the branch level. It felt more about the actual operations and rules than just general stuff.

I got shortlisted for an interview. But on the interview day, the interviewer cancelled it without explaining why. The interviewer is from a country that redditors have called out for hiring bias (they prefer hiring people from their own country). This interviewer is not based where I applied. Maybe this is why my interview got cancelled last minute, to make it seem like they considered everyone before picking their preferred candidate. The job I applied for is still being advertised.

Coding Technical

it started with greetings! and following my introduction 😊 I was not much prepared specific for the drive but pretty much confident for whatever I was telling. Next they asking me for pen-paper coding question. Question was just to get the second largest number in the array. So, first I started with sorting method. Then the began asking asking how do you sort that ? — I explained Merge sort algorithm to them. Again then I told this is not much good approach, better we can just use 2 variables and keep storing highest and second highest number of the array. Like this, they were impressed by optimized solution.

Confirmed questions8 questions
  • They asked a simple query.
  • What about joins?
  • And groupby clause?
