Beauty Advisor
You start with an online application and assessment, then a quick phone screen. After that, it's an in-person interview, followed by an offer and onboarding. It's super fast, with many stores hiring in under a week. Managers aren't looking for someone perfect, but rather someone warm, reliable, and energetic with a guest-first attitude. They want to see if you can juggle customer service, teamwork, and your love for products.
- What makes you want to join Ulta?
Communications Manager
The recruiter seemed a bit rude, but still gave me hope. I went through three interviews back-to-back, which took up a lot of my workday, only to be rejected. When I asked the recruiter for feedback on why I wasn't selected, I got no response. I followed up, and still nothing. If someone is willing to understand why they didn't get a role and you wasted their time doing every single interview round, you absolutely owe them a response.
- What specifically about Ulta beauty do you find appealing?

The interview process was really straightforward and only took about 20 minutes. They asked some simple questions about my previous work history, and then delved into my knowledge of makeup and skincare products. We also went over the dress code. I was then asked to come back the next day to finish some training videos.

- Can you tell me about your past work experiences?
- What is your knowledge of makeup products?
Sales Associate
The hiring manager reached out to set up an interview after reviewing my application from the website. She offered a couple of times to meet after we did a quick chat over the phone. She asked things in a more out-of-the-box way than the usual questions on the Ulta careers page, which surprised me and made me have to think about my answers differently. She even asked about the gloss shade I was wearing, and it turned out not to be an Ulta product but from a generic beauty supply brand. The process was different from what was described on the Ulta careers portal, but it was a neat experience.
- Given a scenario, what actions could you take in this role to meet customer needs?
