General Manager
The initial interview was with the recruiting manager on Zoom. We discussed my background as a store manager, specifically asking about the largest volume I've overseen. They also inquired about a situation where I received negative feedback and my reaction to it.
- What was the highest volume you managed?
- Tell me about a time you got negative feedback and how you handled it.
General Manager
I got a text Thursday saying they wanted to chat that evening or Friday morning about the GM position. I said that evening was good. No time was set. I waited by my phone all day. At 7pm, I texted to see if we were still on or if they wanted to reschedule for Friday morning. They said Friday morning was good and thanked me, but didn't apologize. I replied that I could do 10am. They responded with either 8am or 2pm. I said 2pm would be perfect. No response. The next day, 2pm rolled around and I was waiting by my phone, but no call. At 2:10pm, I called them. It rang a bit and went to voicemail. I left a message about our scheduled 2pm call and asked them to call me back. I never got a call. Around 3pm, I texted expressing my strong interest in the position and asked to reschedule if they were still interested. I haven't heard back since. It was extremely unprofessional. I get that things happen, but to be told they were interested in connecting about the position and then to be blown off twice was really disheartening.
- No questions were asked as they did not call at either of the scheduled times.
General Manager
Applied on line. Two days later received an email from an Ulta recruiter to set up a phone interview. I was asked detailed situations management questions. Three days later followed an in person interview with the district manager. Again, extremely detailed situational questions asked. The following day a phone interview with the V.P. Again, situational questions asked. This was followed by a job offer the same day. The process was very professional and straight forward. It was an amazing experience, each person conducting the interviews made a point of explaining the next step in the process and asking what question I have. If a series of interviews can be professional, knowledgeable, relaxing, and enjoyable... This was it!
- Can you explain how you define or measure self-accountability?
- Describe your vision of what managing a store entails.
- Share an instance where you successfully improved a team member who was underperforming. What steps did you take?
