I applied online which took about 30 minutes and then had a one-on-one interview. I applied Friday afternoon and got a callback Monday. The interview was Tuesday with the assistant manager and district manager. It lasted about 30 minutes. They asked a lot about my past work and customer service experience, especially how my food service background could translate to retail. The interview was surprisingly easy, with many questions similar to what I'd seen online. It was conversational and relaxed, and we even chatted about non-work topics after the questions. They really value personality, so make sure yours shines. Experience is good, but personality seemed more important since I didn't have direct retail experience. They liked that I was smiling throughout. Wear all black, as is the Ulta way, though they might tell you to wear it when they call. I wore a nose ring after confirming face piercings were okay.
- Could you tell us about yourself?
- Describe a time you dealt with a difficult customer and how you resolved it.
- What makeup are you currently wearing?

I went for the interview during a busy time at the store. Since I'm a regular, it wasn't too much of a problem. The interviewer, who I'd spoken with before, asked me to look around and said she'd find me when she was done with the rush. The interview itself was chill and conversational, but it was in the mall's food court, so it wasn't the best setting, a bit loud. She skipped most of the questions about the store and products because she said she saw me in there a lot, and it seemed like it went well. I'm not sure, though. I guess I messed up somewhere because she mentioned she'd get back to everyone on Monday, but Monday passed and she didn't even bother to call me back to say no.
- Can you share a time you received excellent customer service?
- What's your strategy for managing busy periods with multiple customers?

I submitted my application on September 9th and got a call to schedule an interview on the 14th, which was 5 days later. The actual interview was on the 17th. Since the Ulta store wasn't open yet, I met with the manager of the new store at another Ulta location in the same plaza. She asked me a bunch of questions and explained how she runs the store, emphasizing punctuality, being ready for your shift, and prioritizing the customer. She also inquired about my experience with retail systems and handling shipping and order processing.
- Can you start by telling me about yourself?
- What makes you want to work for Ulta?
- You mentioned Sephora before, so why are you interested in Ulta instead?
