We did a quick phone call first, super casual with just two questions, then a sit-down interview. It was pretty standard stuff, mostly about my past work and how I deal with conflicts. They also checked if I was good with asking customers to sign up for the savings program.

I had a really hard time trying to schedule this interview. I played phone tag with the store hiring manager but couldn't get in touch. It's a weird and inefficient way for them to email you after you apply and tell you to contact the manager yourself to schedule the interview. Every other retailer I've worked for just calls or emails you directly to set up an interview, maybe this place is just too busy.

I interviewed with TJ Maxx for a management role. First, I chatted with the store manager, then met with both him and the district manager for a joint interview. They asked about my qualifications, why I want to work there, and mentioned that the job, while based at one store, would require travel to other TJ Maxx locations within 50 miles, which wasn't in the posting. I told them I have open availability and previous management experience. After the interview, the district manager had the store manager give me a tour. The store manager was super friendly and showed me everything – the layout, backroom ops, truck schedules, loss prevention, how he leads his team, and keeps the store profitable. The whole thing, including the tour and meeting staff, took about 1.5 hours. The next day, I got an email saying they went with someone else. I respect it, but thought the in-depth interview and tour for someone not moving forward was odd. In the future, I think it'd be better to decide on a candidate and then do the store tour if they're seriously being considered. Still, it was informative, and I wish TJ Maxx the best.

The interview was a group interview with three other people and the manager. It was in the break room where the manager would ask questions and give every person a chance to respond or add to. It was not bad just have to think off different answers. The interview was really quick, maybe like a couple of questions, but i advise you to come with questions to ask. At the end of the interview, the manager was really keen on if we had any questions. So ask questions!
