We did a quick phone call first, super casual with just two questions, then a sit-down interview. It was pretty standard stuff, mostly about my past work and how I deal with conflicts. They also checked if I was good with asking customers to sign up for the savings program.

So I interviewed at Boucher Shopping Park in BELFAST. They seem to have a good culture, but I noticed that most of the people working there were younger, which made me feel like maybe they prefer younger folks. For jobs that don't need a lot of experience or special skills, it's good to remember that people of all ages can bring useful skills, and older people can bring a sense of calm and dependability to jobs that don't require a lot of technical know-how. The interviewer also asked me if I had kids. Even though it might seem like a casual question, it's important to know that whether someone has kids or not doesn't say anything about how well they can do the job. A lot of people might feel awkward being asked about their kids, and these kinds of questions could unintentionally create bias. Really, it's usually better to avoid these questions since they don't fit with fair hiring rules. Maybe asking about availability and flexibility would be a better approach. If the company is looking for specific qualities, like younger people or certain life situations, it would be better to state that clearly in the job ads. That way, candidates can figure out if they're a good fit before even applying, which saves everyone time. It’s a win-win! I totally get wanting to keep a certain team vibe or company culture, but it's also key to make sure that hiring practices are inclusive and follow the law. I think it would be really beneficial for the company to look again at some of these things, especially concerning family status or age, to build a more varied and welcoming workplace for everyone.

I had a phone interview at first then after the phone interview they asked for a in person interview. Stay confident throughout your whole interview and if they ask if there’s something I can work on and just say I think I’m capable of this job but I need to work on something I am willing to learn and work on it! But I am confident I can do all the roles efficiently.
