I interviewed with TJ Maxx for a management role. First, I chatted with the store manager, then met with both him and the district manager for a joint interview. They asked about my qualifications, why I want to work there, and mentioned that the job, while based at one store, would require travel to other TJ Maxx locations within 50 miles, which wasn't in the posting. I told them I have open availability and previous management experience. After the interview, the district manager had the store manager give me a tour. The store manager was super friendly and showed me everything – the layout, backroom ops, truck schedules, loss prevention, how he leads his team, and keeps the store profitable. The whole thing, including the tour and meeting staff, took about 1.5 hours. The next day, I got an email saying they went with someone else. I respect it, but thought the in-depth interview and tour for someone not moving forward was odd. In the future, I think it'd be better to decide on a candidate and then do the store tour if they're seriously being considered. Still, it was informative, and I wish TJ Maxx the best.

I sent my resume through CareerBuilder, and about a week later, the district manager called me. She did a quick phone chat, and then we scheduled a one-on-one interview for the next week. The interview was at a restaurant, which felt more personal and welcoming. It lasted about an hour and a half. That same day, a store manager took me on a tour of a store. My references were checked about a week after that, since there was a holiday weekend. A week after that, the district manager called with an offer for assistant manager, with a higher salary than I asked for. The offer was dependent on a background check.

I applied online when I saw they were hiring for new store openings and got a confirmation they received my resume. About a month later, I saw they were having a job fair, so I went and had an initial interview. Then, I was asked to stay and do a one-on-one with the HR Manager. The interviews were very pleasant, with no tricky questions or negativity. They followed up often to let me know where they were in the hiring process, like background checks and interviewing other candidates. However, it took two months to get an offer, which was nerve-wracking.
