Presentation Behavioral Technical

I tried reaching out to the recruiter team six times for some clarity on the sales presentation, but got nothing back. I even set up a mock interview with them beforehand, but they didn't show up. Feeling unsure, I decided to contact the main interviewer I'd spoken to before to explain what happened. I let them know that without answers to my questions and after the no-show, I didn't think I could give my best performance. The next day, the recruiting team contacted me through phone, email, and text, and we rearranged the call with the hiring team. On the day of the presentation, the Interviewer was late. They mentioned that because of back-to-back meetings at the start of the new quarter, they weren't aware of the scheduled presentation. That felt like a red flag. It seemed like they weren't managing their schedule well, and it came across like meeting with me was a hassle. Not a great start, but it wasn't my fault—this seemed more like a sign of a disorganized recruiting department. The presentation itself went okay, though I felt like some of the technical details were a bit over their heads, especially since the solution at my previous company was quite intricate. That's understandable. But then, when they asked if I had any questions for them, I asked, “What have all the candidates consistently missed in their interviews?” They said they didn't like that question, calling it negative. I had actually gotten that question from a professional interviewer on social media who specializes in this, so I was taken aback by their reaction. In reality, it seemed like they were bothered by having me on their calendar, and they ended up not moving forward with me. I also asked, “What gives Tableau its competitive advantage?” He/She then turned it around, asking me who our competitors were. The sales presentation was supposed to be about my professional experience, not the solution (Tableau). I named one competitor, but the feedback was that my research was just basic. And, unfortunately, he/she didn't directly answer my question either. Looking back, it was a good thing this didn't work out. If an interviewer gets so emotional during a presentation, it's a clear sign they might not manage their team well, especially if they can't even manage their own calendar. Hard pass for me.

So the interview process for this role started with a phone interview, then a Zoom interview. After that, there was a final 3-hour product demo that I had to present to a bunch of hiring managers. I put in about 20 hours to get ready for that big demo. But then, the day before the demo, my hiring manager called and told me they were putting a pause on hiring for now. They weren't sure how long it would last but said I was a strong candidate and that they'd reach out when they started hiring again. Never heard back from them.

I submitted my resume on LinkedIn and got a quick response from the recruiter at Tableau/SFDC. Then I had a chat with the hiring manager to see if we were a good fit. After that, there were four rounds of interviews. Another call happened with the hiring manager and the next level manager to go over the scope of work. The recruiter reached out with the offer details, which included a very generous RSU and multi-year sign-on bonus. It felt like there would be good work-life balance and I could have gotten along well with the manager. However, I ended up declining for a startup. It was a great experience with Tableau and SFDC recruiting overall. The whole process took about 3.5 weeks.

The recruiter's email didn't allow replies and had no other contact info, which was unprofessional. I had to find her on LinkedIn and WhatsApp CS to get in touch. The first round went okay, where I explained my time away from full-time work, and I was moved to the second round. The second round involved many questions, but a few days later, I was told they were concerned about the time gap and wouldn't proceed. I was surprised that such a big company isn't more open-minded and focuses on past gaps instead of potential contributions. They should have realized this before the second round, making that long talk a waste of everyone's time.
