First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Roblox.
Network Reliability Engineer
The interview process was pretty smooth. Since it was one of the newer roles, it was a little unclear at first who would be the best fit. But talking to the recruiting team and some people in the interview loop helped clear that up. The team running the interviews was really good technically. Overall, it was a good experience.
- Tell me about System Design.
- Tell me about Networking.
- Tell me about Coding.
Software Engineer
So I started off by playing some Roblox games, one was about making a factory run better and another was about choosing car parts to get through obstacles. Then there were some multiple-choice questions that were behavioral. After that, a recruiter got in touch to set up a day with two leetcode-style interviews back-to-back. They told me the next step would be a behavioral round, but I didn't make it that far.
- Solve a Leetcode hard problem involving backtracking or dynamic programming.
Data Scientist Intern
So first I had to do this pre-interview exam, it had like "games" in it, building cars and supply chain stuff. Then the actual interview was technical, with some basic stats questions about A/B testing and ML, and then one coding question. The coding question was pretty hard compared to the stats ones, like Leetcode medium.
- In a situation with two groups that have unequal variances, which statistical test is appropriate for assessing the difference in their means?
- Could you explain some basic A/B testing concepts?
- What are some fundamental principles of machine learning?
Trust and Safety Specialist
I had a "screener" call with HR, but it turned out to be a bunch of questions from the hiring manager. I wasn't even allowed to ask clarifying questions because she just said "I don't know, I'm just here to record your answers and share them with the HM." Even though the invite said we'd discuss my background and the role, the interview was entirely case-based.
- How would you design a policy that can scale globally given specific constraints (XY)?
- Can you describe your approach to building a scalable global policy under XY constraints?
