Applied and got an email from the recruiter, then the next week spoke with the recruiter about the process. There was a technical interview and then 3 more interviews including meeting with the director. The technical interview was where I messed up on some questions but they were very random from the interviewer. Also, the questions asked were mostly not very technical, just basic level, and I forgot some stuff, though I thought they were going to be actually technical. One question he did ask was not worded correctly and was asked to another engineer. Also, they look for specific keywords, which is not the best for an interview since there could be multiple answers. A lot of questions from my very old job, I have not worked there in over 5 years, made no sense but they asked me about them, some not technical.

The interview process was well put together. Most of the interviews were crammed into a single day. I met with various leaders including Engineering Managers, Directors, VPs, and the CEO. It was evident that everyone was genuinely interested and invested, which is a good sign that hiring is taken very seriously here. However, the final decision took a bit longer than I would have preferred.

I applied online and a recruiter got in touch a few days later to set up a phone screen. The call was the standard initial recruiter screen. We discussed the company and position details, and my background. Things got weird when we talked about salary expectations. I said I was looking for something competitive for the area, role, and my experience. They insisted on a number and wouldn't take my answer. I asked for the range for the role, but they wouldn't share it. This reaction was unexpected for such a normal question. Whether it's the recruiter or company culture, it felt unprofessional and shady. I don't know why they'd move forward without a number, but companies that do this often lowball offers.
