First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Riot Games.
Software Engineer
The interview process begins with a screening by the Riot Games recruiter, and then a series of 2 interviews, one personality screening with the team's producer and a second technical interview with a programmer on the team. The technical interview is preceded by a programming test which was a fairly simple task, and in the technical interview we discussed various topics relevant to Riot Games products at a high level. After the initial test and set of 2 interviews, I was invited to an additional panel of 5 interviews, with a subsequent programming assignment of higher complexity. In this second set of panel interviews, there were 2 technical interviews which were very friendly, low-stress and positive. There were also 3 personality-focused interviews, with the interviewer reading from a series of pre-prepared questions and then having me answer them.
- Tell me about a time you actively included a coworker.
Animation Intern
The whole process for this animation art intern gig took me about a month. There were 3 interviews spread out over 3-4 weeks. First up was a technical interview. Then, there were two interviews focused on values with different people from the team I would have been working with. The last interview was with the hiring manager, who is the animation supervisor, to see if I'd be a good fit for the team and the work environment. Each interview was about an hour long and honestly pretty relaxed since the interviewers were really nice and casual. They asked a bunch of questions, mostly about my past experiences, so some questions got super specific. Since it took a while, I kind of wish they'd given some feedback on why they chose someone else, but I guess it's a big studio and the team is swamped, so I'm not too surprised.
- Can you describe a situation where you struggled with a client and explain how you managed to fix it?
- Tell me about a time you had trouble with a client and what you did to sort it out.
- How did you handle a difficult client situation you experienced in the past?
Finance
I went through seven rounds of interviews with seven different people over nearly three months, but ended up not getting the job. It was a long and inefficient process. I did get to meet various team members, which was nice, but the whole thing felt too long and repetitive. Maybe they could have done panel interviews or grouped interviewers together to speed things up. Also, communication between interviews was really slow, making me feel frustrated and unsure. All in all, it felt disorganized and took up a lot of time, especially since I didn't get the offer in the end.
- A technical question relevant to the finance position was asked.
Video Producer
So this was kinda like other tech places, a multi-stage, multi-day thing. First, a recruiter, just asked about my general background, skills, and what I've done. Didn't get too deep, just to weed out people. Then, I talked to my potential manager, who asked more specific stuff about video production and my experience. They wanted to really check my skills and see if I was a good fit. After that, it was a 4-hour visit to the campus. I had my own 'home room' and different people from other teams came by for about 30-45 minutes each. It was a bit of a marathon, but it was cool talking to people outside of video. You really got a feel for the kind of people you'd be working with. My interviews went over the lunch hour, so one chat was actually during lunch. So after the whole day of meetings, the recruiter called me with the official offer and then sent an email with all the details.
- Can you tell us about your biggest weakness and what you've done to get better at it?
